LMC Vitamin Network

Vitamins are essential for the health of a human being. But, the existing knowledge on vitamins is of old date and deficient. Earlier focus was on malnutrition and lower limits for intake which means that not much is known about optimal doses of vitamins. This knowledge is crucial with respect to a human being’s health and a dynamic and prospective approach should be taken within the research area of vitamins.

Initiation of the LMC Vitamin Network

Centre for Advanced Food Studies (LMC) has approved a 2 year funding of initiating a Vitamin Network that will focus on increasing collaboration between research and education. The Vitamin network will evolve around exchange of knowledge, discussions and cooperation across universities, companies and other relevant competencies within the area of vitamins. It is expected that the network will attract competencies from both Denmark and South of Sweden, and that common cooperation will be established within both research and education.

The initiative for the Vitamin Network comes from senior researcher Jette Jakobsen (DTU National Food Institute), Associate professor Susanne Bügel (KU Life) and senior researcher Søren Krog Jensen (University of Aarhus, DJF). Øresund Food is a collaborating partner.

Activities

The LMC Vitamin Network has so far hosted two succesfull workshops - one in November 2009 and one in November 2010. The participants came from universities and companies, and constructive and open environments of knowledge exchange was evident. Research results and research opportunities were discussed and planned at both workshops that showed a great interest and active contribution from all participants. Two network meetings are planned to take place in 2011.

In relation to the LMC Vitamin Network it is important to highligth the first International Conference on Vitamins that took place in Copenhagen in May 2010. The conference was a great success with participants from all over the world, and the conference gave the network participants great opportunities to share experiences with world class competencies within vitamin research. The second International Conference on Vitamins will take place in Copenhagen in May 2012. Find more information on: http://www.vitaminconference.com/.
