The project
Due to the increasingly complex nature of international business and the changing nature of migration, it becomes interesting to understand the mechanisms – formal and informal – facilitating transnational entrepreneurship.
Øresund Entrepreneurship deems it essential that highly educated residents (immigrants) and newcomers are secured the opportunity to establish businesses in Denmark and/or Sweden, contributing to the economic growth of, and welfare in, these countries. By strengthening such opportunities we may enjoy the benefits of an enhanced Øresund brand, better employment rates, more innovation and growth companies, better brain circulation, a more varied and globally minded labour market, better integration, further regional access and mobility, cultural contributions, more global relations and partnerships, better triple helix collaborations, better commercialization of research, increased cluster opportunities in Øresund, and so forth.
It is our wish that the Øresund Region will be perceived as a place where entrepreneurial talents are well taken care of – where those who are already here, and those that arrive, become interested in (transnational) entrepreneurship with successful (bi-focal) start-ups as a result. As an added value, these companies are per definition often born global.
The project has three main functions which underpin the objective of identifying one or more focus areas and a partnership model for future implementation of corresponding initiatives; analysis, networking and documentation.
Analysis
The project analyzes which focus areas and initiatives within policy and the university context the Øresund Region can (further) develop and coordinate with the goal of making it more attractive for international students and researchers to start a business here, ensuring that more transnational entrepreneurs are attracted to and kept in the region. Furthermore, identification and involvement of the partners who can contribute to the implementation of the suggested areas and initiatives is an objective of the analysis and its inherent activities.
The analysis will be based field-studies and interviews.
Networks & Partnerships
Inspiring network activities for relevant stakeholders and interested parties within the field will be arranged in order to introduce these to one another and allow for the exchange of ideas and experiences. (Networking) activities which facilitate the progress of the project and the involvement of potential partners will be supported by a range of meetings with central stakeholders to derive relevant information.
Documentation
In order to secure dissemination of information and knowledge, the activities within the project will be documented and made available on our webpage and through other relevant information channels. The overall aim with this project is to identify the crucial areas that need improvement and form partnerships that are able to make considerable changes and impact on how to make the Øresund Region attractive for transnational entrepreneurs.
