Oticon

People come first

At Oticon it is believed that it takes much more than technology to create the best hearing care solution. That's why individual needs and wishes of the hard-of-hearing take precedence in the development of new hearing care solutions.

Oticon hearing-aid devicesAt the independent Oticon's Eriksholm Research Centre, located 40 km north of Copenhagen, researchers, specializing in everything from physics to acoustics, physiology, audiology and engineering work to find solutions to meet the needs of the hard-of-hearing.

The Behind-the-Ear hearing aid Ergo is a worldly recognized example of outstanding Oticon solutions. The product received one of the world's leading design awards, the International Forum Design Award 2002. Competing against 1,900 products from 35 countries, Ergo won in the category "Product Design Medicine" as an exceptional example of functional and ground-breaking design.

In 2001, Oticon launched Adapto, which can be considered as its most advanced instrument because it addresses problems that were, at that point, unsolved for users. Adapt was the first hearing aid in the world to use voice activation, which means that, thanks to a microchip, it detects the presence of speech to maximise the user's ability to understand speech, especially in a noisy environment.

In November 2002, Adapto received the IST Grand Prize, which is considered the most distinguished award for groundbreaking products that represent the best of European innovation.
