Initiative in Accelerator Technology Pending
The project CATE, aiming at developing a modern accelerator step, will be based on the participating universities individual core competencies in the field. Working in the project will render an opportunity to regional business to practically leverage their knowledge within the area to enable them an applied knowledge base that can be used in future work opportunities opened up by ESS and MAX IV.
In forming new liaisons, the regional competencies will be strengthened and make possible long term competitive business from an international perspective. The construction phase of the ESS will continue until 2019, followed by utilisation for ca 20 years when maintenance and servicing will be necessary, which implies that regional competence within accelerator technology will be in high demand for the foreseeable future.
At present the region lacks this competence. Only by joining forces as proposed in this project partnership is there a belief that the obstacles with this sizeable initiative could be overcome, and academia joined successfully with business. The project partners in CATE have built an extensive network with the strongest capacities in the field and look forward to kick start the initiative, if given a go ahead.
