Food employs more than double the number of employees generally counted

Around 160,000 people, or 5.6% of the workforce, are employed in the Danish food sector, if all sub branches are included. That is more than the double of what is usually included counting only the statistical code 10.1 in official statistics, “Manufacturing of food and beverages”. This is one of the conclusion of the report "Redefining the food sector" published on May 9, 2011. The report was initiated to create an overview of the Danish and Swedish food sectors and to suggest which industry codes are relevant to include when extracting data concerning the food sector from official statistics.

The report has been created by Healthy Growth in cooperation with the project FoodBEST with financing from The Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, European Regional Deveopment Fund (through Interreg IVA).
