Femern A/S must apply for building authorisation
As in all other building matters the authorities must approve the Femern Belt project before the building can commence. Finally, the Danish minister of transport have to get a new grounds law approved before digging can begin.
In the spring of 2011 Femern A/S expects to announce whether a bridge or a tunnel is to be constructed as the Femern fixed link connection.
Femern A/S must, accordingly to the state treaty between Denmark and Germany, produce an application for the authorities – both in Danish and German. The application must accurately describe the project and an alternative project.
The authorities in Germany must approve the proposal Femern A/S is applying for. In Denmark the project will be approved by passing a ground law in the Danish Folketing.
An important part of the authorities processing of the application concerns the project’s environmental impacts. In the coming months Femern A/S will conclude on a 2-year, intensive environmental study. Together with the environmental study the geotechnical pre-examinations represent a significant part of the decision for the election of the final technical solution.
Femern A/S has recently initiated the last and most comprehensive geotechnical examinations in a test field just north-east of Puttgarden ferry berth.
When the examination is completed in 2012 the seabed will be fully re-established.
