Advanced wastewater treatment in big cities

Øresund Environment puts focus on the latest development within urban wastewater treatment through the coordination of a new course based on distance learning. “Advanced wastewater treatment in big cities” is the title of this novel joint initiative between Lund Institute of Technology (LTH) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

During the last ten years, considerable investments in new wastewater treatment facilities have been made, bringing along increased capacity as well as a more sustainable and economic wastewater treatment. However, new challenges emerge continually, which creates a need for the development of on the edge competences in the field, both among professionals recently graduated from the universities and in order to improve the actual university teaching. The course aims at facilitating an overall knowledge of the functioning of current wastewater plants along with an understanding of the new opportunities and demands that call for attention. In two educational modules, the students will 1) get updated on today's advanced plant technology and 2) gain insight into upcoming challenges and possible solutions corresponding to them.

Øresund Environment coordinates the course together with Prof. Jes la Cour Jansen and Assoc. Prof. Karin Jönsson from the Department of Water and Environmental Engineering at LTH and Prof. Mogens Henze, Assoc. Prof. Ann Marie Ejlersen and Assoc. Prof. Jens Eybye Schmidt from Environment & Resources at DTU.

Teaching will be given by staff from the two mentioned institutes. The course is given as a distance education, although including several one-day conferences and field studies. The course is mainly targeted at professionals and students from the Øresund Region and is given in Swedish/Danish.
