Bringing Hong Kong closer to Øresund

Øresund Science Region and Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation will deepen their collaborative efforts, by arranging annual summits. The first of its kind was held in Copenhagen on 24 August.

By signing a memorandum of understanding, Lars Montelius of ØSR and Nicholas Brooke of HKSTPC demonstrated their intention to continue a cooperation that dates back to 2005. The ceremony was part of the Øresund – Hong Kong Innotech & ChinaBiz Summit which took place at Hilton Copenhagen Airport Hotel last Tuesday.

Some 200 delegates from industry, academia and the innovation system had gathered for the meeting. The list of speakers included Mr. Hans M. Pedersen, Deputy Director General of the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, who underlined the importance for Denmark to internationalise its research.

- We have identified a number of key countries to cooperate with. Of course, Hong Kong and China are part of the selected few, said Mr. Pedersen.

Ms. Janet Wong, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, introduced the audience to Hong Kong´s history and its transition from low-cost production to knowledge-based economy. She highlighted the opportunities for companies based in the Øresund region to work with Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation in areas such as nanotechnology, biotech, cleantech, ICT and precision engineering.

The summit also included talks by representatives of Swedish and Danish companies, such as ALK-Abello and European Nano Invest, who have ongoing projects together with HKSTPC.
