Collaboration and version control
Time and place:
- Wednesday, October 2, 8:30-10:30, aula G
Literature:
Lab preparation:
- Download and install CVS on your laptop (if you use Linux/Mac it might already be
installed - try "cvs -version" in the terminal)
- Read sections 1 and 2, and carry out the instructions in sections 3 and 4 of
the lab description before coming to the lab
- You might want to browse quickly through the remaining sections
- Bring your prepared laptop with you for the lab ;-)
Lab summary:
- introduction, scenario and CVS in a few lines
- setting up your project
- doing your daily work
- co-ordinating with other people
- the necessities and the goodies
This is the two-hour variant of the CVS lab, so remember that you only have to carry out the
compulsory tasks (numbered C.x). You can skip the optional tasks (numbered O.x) - unless
you want to spend four hours on the lab (or are simply too curious).
At the end of the lab send an email to Lars Bendix (bendix@cs.lth.se) containing the following information:
- what did you like the most about a version control tool?
- what created problems for you during the lab?
- how far (task number) did you arrive in the two hours?

A source code control system [is] a giant UNDO key - a project-wide time machine - Andy Hunt and Dave Thomas.
