DATE15/EDA132 - Spring 2009

(Applied) Artificial Intelligence

Programming Assignments

The programming assignments will consist of one or more parts. The outcome will be graded according to the LTH-standard: 0, 3, 4, 5. For each assignment the minimum level of achievement for pass (3) and for a higher grade (4 or 5) will be stated. Finished assignments should be put in the box marked (T)AI located in the stairwell outside the LTH secretary office or NF secretary office at the latest at 23.59 the date listed below. If you miss the latest hand-in date there will be an extra opportunity to hand in one delayed assignment in August the day after the re-examination. However, this requires that three assignments have been approved during the spring term. It is allowed to hand in more than four assignments. The grade (together with the writen exam) will then be based on the four best assignments.

There will be three versions of the fourth assignment; you are expected to solve only one of them (as they investigate roughly similar issues). You may choose to file in more solutions than one, but only (the best) one will be counted towards the final grade.

The assignments will be made available in connection with the lectures listed in the syllabus, with suitable deadlines some weeks later. Delayed assignments will not be evaluated.

  1. Assignment 1: Agents. (deadline 5/2)
  2. Assignment 2: A game-playing program. (obligatory tournament participation 25/2 + report deadline 5/3)
  3. Assignment 3: Deduction. (deadline 2/4)
  4. Assignment 4a: Decision tree learning. (deadline 30/4)
  5. Assignment 4b: Neural networks. (deadline 30/4)
  6. Assignment 4c: Genetic algorithms, plus the additional Values file (I apologize for the strange syntax:-). (deadline 30/4)
  7. Assignment 5: Natural language processing. (deadline 28/5)

WARNING

Programming assignments, with possible exceptions of second and maybe third, are expected to be solved in one, maximum two days of hard work, by an average student. Do more if you feel it is challenging, interesting or simply fun, but do not overdo it and do not read more from a description than is there.

Exemption rules (dispensregler)

concerning the assignments:

Rule 1: If you have three assignments approved (or handed in before deadline) during this semester (VT09) you may hand in one delayed assignment at the latest Monday, August 31st, 2009.

Rule 2: There are no more rules this year. You don't have any general right to take credit for assignments approved any previous semester.
