The Swedish government wants open standards

Open standards was the key word when the E-delegation last Thursday presented a document to be used as a "guide for automated interaction". The guidelines are part of the strategy that will form the basis for the authorities work with e-government.

Last Thursday the governments E-delegation presented One of the members of the E-delegations Council of IT Standards is Björn Lundell, researcher in open standards and open software, and chairman of Open Source Sweden.
- As I see it the E-delegation has taken a clear stand for open standards. Already in fall 2009 they announced that there are good opportunities for lower cost in the long-term perspective by using open standards, said Björn Lundell.
About a dozen of municipalities have cooperated since 2009 in order to introduce open standards in the context of Kivos - Local Collaboration in the West for open source. In early December Kivos sent a letter to the IT Minister Anna-Karin Hatt with a call for a government initiative to facilitate exchange of information in a transparent and standardized way.
