Lack of labor in the ICT industry

The future is looking brighter for Danish ICT companies. This means that the industry again will need more employees, says Morten Bangsgaard, CEO of The Danish IT Industry Association (ITB).
A new analysis from Deloitte shows that three out of four ICT companies expect to recruit again in 2011 after a few lean years during the crisis where the ICT industry, however, was not nearly as badly affected as many other industries as the demand for ICT services was still high.

The ICT industry has for several years emphasized that Denmark educates too few people with highly advanced ICT skills. According to Bangsgaard, two handles have to be turned in order to improve the situation; insourcing of employees and more IT students.
In relation to that it has to be easier for foreingers with high skills to work in Denmark. This calls for a better Green Card scheme and an improved research tax that for several years give a tax rebate to foreigners with special skills. Furthermore, the ICT industry asks for a larger intake of students at the Universities' ICT courses.
A challenge for the industry is that the profession is not attractive to women who deselect ICT when choosing a future career path. It is an issue that the IT Industry Association for several years has tried to do something about by appointing female role models to promote the industry at several universities and institutions.
