Investments in Danish ICT for 65 billion DKK last year

Posted: March 14, 2011

The total number of ICT investments in Denmark was last year greater than ever before, according to the research agency IDC. They raise the expectations for the coming year.

The IT industry estimates that it is good news for the ICT companies and the entire Danish economy.

The Danish ICT sector experienced a drop in turnover during the crisis in 2009, but can now look back at 2010 where the total IT investment was nearly 65 billion DKK. Thus the Danish ICT market grew by 6.8 percent and thereby surpassed the forecast of 4.4 percent.

- The ICT industry has almost reached full speed again. This is not only good news for the ICT industry but for the whole country. The investments in ICT is in fact really effective in improving the productivity of the overall Danish economy. Technology is a key driver for growth in Denmark, says Morten Bangsgaard, CEO of the Danish IT Industry Association.

The money does not always benefit the Danish ICT professionals. The large investments in 2010 has mainly been in new hardware. Therefore the growth rates will also go slightly down during the coming years, according to IDC.

- The current growth is primarily driven by hardware. It is partly due to replacement of old PCs and servers but also the demand for mobile devices - primarily smartphones. When the replacement is complete and the growth of mobile devices subsides, the growth in the overall ICT market will decrease, says Anders Elbak, Research Manager at IDC.
