Combain Mobile helps Doro with positioning solution

Posted: March 01, 2011

Doro that is known for its niche in cell phones for elderly will start using Combains technology in order to track alarms although the phones are without GPS.

Combain Mobile is an innovative company located at Ideon in Lund, Sweden. The company has now signed an agreement with the Swedish mobile phone manufacturer Doro in order to help them positioning their specially made phones for elderly - without building and adding an expensive and power-consuming GPS chip.

Combains solution operates with positioning via cell ID by use of triangulation of 3G masts. A solution which is based on their gigantic database of 3G masts and Wi-Fi hotspots. Today Combains database contains of 12 million 3G masts and 45 million WiFi hotspots in more than 200 countries.

- It allows us to build global and operator-independent positioning solutions based on standard electronics without high start-up and investment costs. Moreover, we can put the entire database on mobile device locally to reduce the amount of necessary data traffic, explains Richard Windh who is part owner and co-founder of Combain and continues;

- Doro has been given a completely new software-based positioning solution that does not cost the earth and does not consume more power - but that works both indoors and outdoors and have global coverage, says Richard Windh.

Today Combain has solutions for both manufacturers of mobile phones, mobile platforms and WiFi chipsets in their product portfolio. The unit for measurement is at the moment cell phones but the aim is the entire market segment of "Connected Devices". In 2020 it is estimated that 50 billion connected devices exist and with Combains technology the position of these can easily be tracked.
