Touch-technology to service bars

A collaboration between Microsoft and Carlsberg in the Øresund Region combines technology and beer and offers new service experiences to bar customers in Copenhagen. The latest touch-technology from Microsoft Surface is called Tuborg Touch.

The pilot project Tuborg Touch is the first time the public is allowed to try Microsoft's Surface-technology. In today's society we are almost approaching a touch-technology revolution with still thinner and more sensitive screens, and Microsoft and Carlsberg have joined forces to test new opportunities.

- The goal of Tuborg Touch is to offer our clients' customers a brand new experience. When you go to a bar it is a social event and with Tuborg Touch we will give the guests a new option to play and compete against each other and overall make their evening more fun, says Thomas Tuxen, VP of Group Innovation at Carlsberg who is behind the project.

Three bars in Copenhagen are first in Denmark to test this touch-technology which is a horizontal touch-sensitive surface at the size of a normal table. When guests in a bar touch the table it is registered by a computer that allows the customer to see the beer selection of the bar or play virtual board games across the table in the same way as possible on a touch-screen cell phone.

- If we take the touch-technology today it is fairly much the same as back when the first flat screens came to market. Today we have flat screens all around and in a few years touch-technology will be just as common. This counts for the classic, electronic surfaces as televisions and computers, but also e.g. shop windows and other surfaces in the public space where the technology is implementable, says Ole Kjeldsen, manager of platform and developers at Microsoft.

Customers have already given positive feedback on Tuborg Touch and Carlsberg and Microsoft are now considering what next step of the project is.
