The Capital Region in large IT outsourcing

Posted: May 12, 2010 by Daniel Vámosi Martinussen

The largest regional IT outsourcing in Denmark is currently being put out for offer and everything but the most critical areas are put into the hands of private companies.

As the first Danish region the Capital Region of Denmark is putting out the so far most extensive call for tenders i relation to IT operation:

The offering, which is divided into two separate licensing deals includes operation of networks, 35.000 PC's and various basis systems such as mail, user and access control, Notes and Novell environments and not least all file servers.

The IT director of the Capital Region of Denmark, Jan Kold, describes the intentions to license as a way to harmonize the IT management and achieve a common level for the IT quality in the region.

However, not everything is being out-licensed to a third party. An analysis of the area has recommended that the region itself deals with development and management of the most fragile and critical areas:

"Being a public region we probably prioritize a little differently than what private companies would do. The economy system for instance is not critical. While a breakdown of such system as the medical module, the clinical systems, the laboratory systems, the clinical note-system or EPJ can result in actual loss of lives. Likewise its dangerous if the logistics systems break down," says Jan Kold.

Whoever wins the licensing deal is something we will monitor closely.
