RIM buys TAT

One of the world's leading mobile manufacturers buy the Malmø company TAT. This means that one more large mobile operator settles down in the Øresund Region.

It is Blackberry’s manufacturer RIM (Research In Motion) that is behind the purchase of TAT. The final paper has just recently been signed but the price has not yet been announced. According to Sydsvenskan it is about several hundred million dollars.
TAT is working with software for mobile phones. The company was founded in 2002 by six young guys and currently employs 175 people. Last year TAT’s turnover was 160 million and made a profit of 13.5 million.
The deal means that TAT will only supply its technology to RIM in the future. But according to one of founders, Hampus Jakobsson ongoing assignments for other mobile manufacturers will still be completed until the agreements expire. Today TAT’s software is estimated to be in 500 million mobile phones and the customer list contains well known companies such as Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
Hampus Jakobsson is confident that the company will stay in the Øresund Region.
- We have already talked about hiring 20-40 people more in Malmø next year. The company will only be positively affected by this deal, he says.
TAT is the second company in southern Sweden that has been sold to to a world player this fall. In September Polar Rose was sold to Apple.
