Region Skåne invests 75 million in strategic research

The Regional Council of Skåne plans to invest SEK 75 million over a five year period in Research Strategy for the region to strengthen Skånes position as a competitive research region.

"We have a vision to become Europe's most innovative region in 2020 and to do so we must ensure the conditions are present. The focus on strategic research is an important part in the efforts," says Jerker Swan (m), Regional Chairman of the Board.

The allocation of the funds will primarily favor research that is consistent with Lund University's strategic research principles and research that can contribute to a strengthening of the region's position as a competitive knowledge and research region. Another assumption is that the distribution will enable the region to achieve our vision of becoming Europe's most innovative region by year 2020. Decisions on the distribution will flollow after consultation with the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University.

The conduction of the initiative is made possible by regional funding coming from the sale of nine interregional trains and real estate sales that have occurred from Ängelholm Hospital. The income from this reaches a total of SEK 454.8 million.
