Øresund IT educates ICT ambassadors on World Expo in Shanghai

Posted: October 22, 2010

Øresund IT invites students in Shanghai to education on the activities, the potential - and not least the lack - of ICT in the Øresund region in order to attract even more competent resources, so the region can continue as a knowledge-intensive ICT cluster.

- Swedish and Danish students from outside the region are the ones who have the closest and most direct contact to the potential skilled and educated people, we clearly will need over the next five years, says Network Manager of Øresund IT, Philip Stankovski.

- We have invited the IT students who are currently studying here in Shanghai to provide them with the latest facts about the Øresund Region. Within ICT we have outstanding competences in the 10,000 businesses, about 80,000 employees, and due to continued growth in the ICT industry, even during the crisis we will need growth of employees too!

The students are generally surprised by the growth and strength of the ICT industry in the Oresund region.

Henrik Lilja and Johan Hedstig are studying at the Faculty of Engineering in Lund (LTH).
- We are delighted to be made clearly aware of the job potential there is the region when we graduate, "says Henrik and Johan. The two students are via LTHs program with special focus on China in the middle of a six-month course in Shanghai. Their new knowledge about ICT in the Øresund Region must now be passed on to both Chinese and other international students at the universities in Shanghai.

The project BrandIT has in collaboration with public and academic partners presented the latest facts and statistics on ICT in the Øresund Region.

- From both the analysis of BrandIT and direct contact with the major businesses in the region, we know that the students are a primary target group when we want to attract knowledge and labor to the region, says Micael Gustafsson, Managing Director of Øresund IT.

Øresund IT will therefore continue to work to increase the awareness of ICT in the region both at international conferences and fairs as well as specific meetings with coordinators and students at universities both home and abroad.
