Posted: October 14, 2010

More that 1,100 people participated at IBM Software Day 2010. According to Lars Bang, CEO of IBM Danish Software Group, software is the key to handle the growing challenges seen in many different industries.

The challenges Lars Bang is talking about include:

  • Next year there will already be one trillion (1,000 billion) devices connected to the internet and we are rapidly heading towards the 'Internet of Things'.

  •
78 percent of IT managers want to improve the way they use and manage enterprise data.
  •

The volume of digital data is expected to grow by a factor of 10 in 2011.
  •

And not least, 80 percent of the digital data growth is expected to be unstructured, and will require a considerable effort to be able to understood and analyzed.

10 years ago about 25 percent of IBM's revenue was based on software. Last year it was 42 percent, and in 2011 the IT colossus expect this number to rises to 50 percent.

He adds that IBM worldwide is buying a business about once a month, and by this extends the width of the group's capabilities.
