Huawei opens in Lund

Posted: April 15, 2010 by Daniel Vámosi Martinussen

The company recruits ten people for basic development and becomes a clear competitor to Sony Ericsson.

Stockholm City Hall on 29. March 2010: Ericsson's CEO Hans Vestberg shakes hands with China Unicom Chairman Chang Xiaobing, under the supervision of the Deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson, Huawei's senior vice president Lifan Chen and a top executive from China Mobile during the Sweden-China Business Cooperation and Innovation Forum.

Now the Chinese telecom giant has announced that they are openening an office in Lund for the development of basic components for mobile phones.

Precisely where the office is going to be located has not yet been decided but Huawei is looking to recruit a dozen people and expects to pay their employees a better wage than their rival Ericsson.

"In Kista we have now managed to establish ourselves as a credible employer,"says Urban Fagerstedt on Huawei to news agency Rapidus.

"But our competitors are not delighted with our presence. They will seek to discourage their employees from working with us through discredit of us as an employer"

"Many want to illustrate a picture of the Chinese as coming here to learn, steal technology back to China before using it against us," says Urban Fagerstedt.
