Galileo Masters: Fourth place to the Øresund Region

Posted: October 21, 2010

During the annual conference held on the 18-19 of October in Munich, the Øresund Regions regional winner was announced the fourth place out of all 22 participants. A result that is very satisfactory in the overall Galileo Masters competition.

The three inventors from DTU Space Center have created the CAAL project that addresses the issue of sudden cardiac arrest in the street. The idea is that the public access to the automated external defibrillators (AED) should be easier and in that way decrease the number of death.

The CAAL solution consists of two key elements: a technology package, including a GPS that is added to the AED and a mobile communication and database system that is integrated with the emergency services. A combination of these elements makes it possible to significantly reduce the time between detection of a sudden cardiac arrest and treatment with an AED. Such invention will hopefully help to save lives in the future.

The overall winner was Mobilizy from Austria, which invented Wikitude, an AR (Augmented Reality) navigation system which makes use of live video recordings.
