First profit for the Øresund Bridge

Close to its 10th anniversary “The Bridge” - tying together Skåne and the Danish capital region - is finally producing black figure.

On July 1st the ØresundsBron celebrates its 10-year anniversary and what a celebration we can look forward to. Initially, the interregional development was by no means impressive. However, as the first couple of years went by the citizens of both countries successively opened their eyes to realise the benefits:

A few years into existence of the bridge the Danes discovered the economic advantages of settling around the Malmö area at the same time as the Swedes gained new and easy access to the Capital’s shopping mecca and, not least to new jobs in a booming Copenhagen labour market.

Particularly the exchange rates have influenced the Danes to increase their traffic to Sweden resulting in equal numbers of Danish and Swedish people crossing the Bridge in their leisure time.

This development and owing also to the low inflation and a 13 percent decrease of interest rates now means that the ØresundsBron can present the first annual report showing profits. Precisely a profit of 73 million Danish Kroner from a 979 million turnover. The great news will be celebrated together with numerous other anniversary initiatives throughout 2010.
