Danish ICT conference starts digital public hearing

Posted: April 29, 2010 by Daniel Vámosi Martinussen

The Danish ICT industry was gathered last monday to discuss the digital tomorrow of a welfare society and came up with an unusual initiative.

When the newish Danish Minister of Science, Charlotte Sahl-Madsen, opened the ICT conference "Growth and welfare in high-speed society" she requested the industry and the corresponding public stakeholders to put focus on our ideas to design the digital tomorrow.

Apart from input from companies, politicians and organizations Charlotte Sahl-Madsen also launched a rather innovative initiative to call for a public hearing:

"The hearing is now open and will run for 14 days. It is about coming up with good ideas: How can we enhance more innovative solutions? When we tried this internally in the Ministry of Science we came up with more than 100 ideas within 48 hours. How many good proposals will we be able to get then, when we include those millions of Danes who interact on Facebook?, she rhetorically asked.

The minister thereby opened the public hearing on Facebook with an appeal to all Danes to participate and help produce new ideas to how we utilize the new technologies and high-speed resources, which are constantly developing and becoming accessible.

We are very excited to follow this new initiative and will keep you posted on the results that the ministry will produce from the public hearing on Facebook.
