Cluster education: build, meet, act

Posted: November 10, 2010

Øresund IT is educating international ICT project groups on the European cluster collaboration methodology in Malmö. Managing Director, Micael Gustafsson presented the concept of do'ers.

During its 11 years of existence, Øresund IT has tried and developed a few various methods for facilitating as well as managing a cluster.

- For the past 2-3 years other European cluster initiatives have been aware of our experience and we are happy to share it of course, says Managing Director of Øresund IT, Micael Gustafsson.

Thus, in early November this year, a group of Austrian and Italian partners of the TRI-ICT project came to Malmö for an inspiration trip hosted by Mobile Heights and Region Skåne. TRI-ICT is an Interreg project and a co-operation between innovation SMEs, Lead Users and support organizations in the ICT field. Øresund IT was invited to speak on the topic of cluster collaboration methodology, and Micael Gustafsson's message was clear:

- With Øresund IT we have found that it works better at our stage of cluster management to be do'ers rather than following any methodology.

He emphasizes though that the work has changed over the years as the organization has become more and more established as a network- and cluster facilitator. From previously having worked with a very inward perspective to the region by e.g. recruiting members and telling regional stakeholders the vision of the organization; Øresund IT has moved towards a much more external focus in its work, projects and communication. Today, Øresund IT primarily extend its network within the industry while traveling, and the main target for meetings are to create and sustain relation and trust with private and public stakeholders an entrepreneurs.

As a maturing cluster organization Øresund IT points out the importance of building relations, sustaining your network by meeting it, and proactively act to enhance and improve issues risen by the cluster stakeholders.
