Banedanmark puts huge IT deal out for offer
Banedanmark (Rail Net Denmark) is after four years with Siemens, according to regulations, putting the operation of IT-infrastructure and transmission systems out for open offer. Previously the service has been labelled with a multi-million price tag and since then the IT platform has grown further.
In 2006 an agreement with Siemens was made to manage the IT-infrastructure and transmission systems, respectively, but in the future this joint is by no means a matter of course. IT manager Lau Rentius informs Version2 that the contract may very well be devided into two from now on.
Because the round of tendering currently is open Banedanmark is of very few words regarding information about selection criteria and general information about the contestants.
Banedanmark is a state-owned enterprise operating the rail net in Denmark and the entire IT umbrella covering all aspects of the enterprise. The IT-infrastructure comprises more than 255 production servers, 90 test- and deployment servers, 2300 workstations and 150 business-applications.
The operation and support services of the transmission systems includes all kinds of networks, firewalls, back-ups and a nation-wide optical fibre-cable system.
