Axis gains new territory

Swedish communications company and Øresund IT member Axis who recently added a new product series to their portfolio and entered the market for thermal cameras have surprised themselves with success.
Only a few months back the lund-based company launched their thermal network cameras and they are already having trouble keeping up with the orders. Among the customers are seven schools in Stockholm and in total the company have already sold several hundred thermal cameras.
Since Axis has been unable to utilize their existing technology in regard of sensors and lenses the new market is a rather foreign business area for the company. On the other hand, software in form of user interface and image analysis platforms are some of the company's assets that can be reused in the new context. These company competences have been part of the incitement to enter the new field.
Axis' sales manager of the Nordic countries, Magnus Zederfeldt, estimates that only one thermal camera is sold per 400 regular surveillance cameras and within a couple of years he believes that this relationship is going to change to approximately 1:50.
A change which would further benefit the communication oriented company already having great success, a 500 people department in Lund and exiting crisis-year 2009 with a SEK 308 million profit.
