TeliaSonera wins international prizes
TeliaSonera International Carrier won the prestigious World Communication Awards in two categories this year. With sharp competition from all over the world, the company is still leading in Best Wholesale Carrier, and for the first time TeliaSonera International Carrier also took top honours in the Best New Service category.
The winners were announced in London last week. The World Communication Awards recognise the companies and individuals behind the innovations, achievements and new services that are building the communications industry. The Awards are open to all communications providers, including traditional carriers, service providers, multimedia content providers and other organisations providing communication services.
President of TeliaSonera International Carrier, Malin Frenning says about the Awards:
- Winning the award for Best Wholesale Carrier 2007 challenged us to pursue our successful strategy. The first prize for the Best New Service is attributed to Child Safeguard, a service that we recently launched free of charge. The initiative encourages operators and internet service providers to prevent access to websites containing material depicting child sexual abuse. This “opt in” initiative enables operators and internet service providers customers of our IP transit service to block access to video and stills images that record acts of child sexual abuse. I would also like to express my gratitude to the jury for their boldness in recognising this initiative.
The jury’s motivation for the Best New Service:
“This is a brilliant initiative from a business displaying real corporate social responsibility. The service combines intelligent routing without affecting Internet performance”.
