TAT fixed the look of the Android-phone
- First we said 'no', but Google convinced us to do it, says Hampus Jakobsson, co-founder of TAT in Malmö.
Everything that TAT has done will be visable to the users.
- Icons, menus, shapes, colors - and how the parts work with each other, says Per Grimberg, one of the designers and co-founder of TAT.
The company entered the Android project relatively late as the only Swedish company after failed trials from other design companies to complete the mission. This offered a tight time schedule for TAT.
- We said that it was unrealistic from the beginning, but we were told that no changes would be made to the schedule and that we should do as much as possible within this time frame. During the first two weeks we really tried to get out of it, but after all; it is the impossible that is most fun, says Hampus Jakobsson.
There were plenty of challenges to this open source operating system, and Goolge wanted the transparency to permeate the user environment. At the same time, they wanted the interface to have a cool and attractive layout. According to Per Grimberg a difficult balance to make, and TAT made several design proposals that were interpreted too cool og trendy. Another challenge has been to build up a user interface that works with all types of cell phones and other gadgets that should eventually use Android.
By now the first Android phones have been launched and the pipeline for more is growing. To TAT this means great business opportunitites. The company is continuously involved in the development of the actual operating systems, but the real potential is in the producers that by now are planning to use Android.
