Presentation of Øresund's wind project at Cop15

The research project Wind in Øresund - a collaborative work between the Technical University and Denmark and the Faculty of Engineering at Lund's University - has been presented to climate enthusiasts from all over the world at the COP15 meeting in Copenhagen these days.

The purpose of Wind in Øresund is to develop a way to fully harness the wind power as efficient as possible. Today, part of the produced wind energy is wasted as it is not possible to control when the wind is powerful. A way to utilize the energy could potentially be to store it in electronic cars or in freezers.

- Houses are one of the few places we can store surplus energy of wind power. Through advanced IT, it would be possible for us to take the lead in this area which will ensure the region's position when the European Union requires that 50 % of the electricity use has to come from renewable energy sources, says Professor at the Technical University of Denmark, Henrik Madsen to the news service Rapidus.

Until today the test facilities has been placed in Denmark, but Wind in Øresund creates potential for two test facilities in Skåne as well.

The Wind in Øresund project is funded by EU and of participants. Amongst the project partners are wind energy companies as Vestas and Siemens as well as energy companies as E.on and Dong Energy. Furthermore, Øresund IT members Region Skåne and Region Hovedstaden supports the project.
