Need for IT consultants with compliance competence
The medical industry has such a great demand for IT consultants who know the exact procedures within pharma-, finance- and energy sectors; consultants with industry specific compliance knowledge.
In the medical industry it is of extreme importance how the IT systems supporting the production is treated. Products and licences depend on it, and a single IT flaw can rapidly influence and decrease the share price.
But it is almost impossible to get this specific IT consultants, and consequently NNIT now started training their own IT consultants.
- It is simply a criteria for survival to our customers. Compliance is almost more important than the business aspect criteria. The authorities can literally red-label and stop a customer's production if we do not follow the compliance requirements, says Corporate VP of NNIT, Lene Nilsson.
Through its historical connection to Novo Nordisk, NNIT has build up unique competences of compliance, and today they employ more than 400 IT consultants within the medical industry complicance area. Most of these are trained and educated internally because of the relatively high demand for the specific competences in the combination of IT and compliance.
Not only the authorities have high requirements for compliance educated staff. The customers also demand of NNIT to have the right ISO certificats and documentation of the company's ability to live up to the compliance requirements. For this reason NNIT has a specific compliance department employing 25 people working to enforce the company's ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and DS 484 certificats.
Lene Nilsson says further that it typically takes a new compliance employee two years to become an experienced specialist.
- It is the kind of knowledge that is built both through theory and practical courses, but where hands-on experiences in practical projects are completely necessary, she says.
