China expert as new CEO for TerraNet

The Ideon based company TerraNet is looking towards China for development as well as for production of the company's mobile techniques. Now Pär-Olof Johannesson is head hunted as new CEO for TerraNet; and he brings in experience from amongst other Ericsson's and ABB's companies in China.

The founder of TerraNet, Anders Carlius is replaced by Pär-Olof Johannesson, but the two will collaborate closely about market development, says Chairman, Anders Rantén. He further explains that Anders Carlius is young and enthusiastic but has little experience with large international affairs, which is whyhe has chosen a new CEO.

TerraNet's technique is meant for cell phones to make them both senders and receivers of signals. Combined with small and cheap antennas it willeliminate the need for masts which will be useful i.e. in disaster zones where the infrastructure is affected. TerraNet has done a few prototype tests in Equador already, and the first order worth 8 mill. dollars has been placed from Equador. But that requires the cell phones to be ready and 30-40% of the technical development is still not in place.

"If we would have done the rest of this work at home in Lund (Sweden, red.) it would probably take 1-2 years still. But then we would need 30-50 employees", says Anders Rantén.

In stead, the company chooses to outsource the rest of the technical development as well as the actual production to China. The management is currently working on a business agreement with a potential Chinese business partner.
