Lars Bendix:
Are you in control of your configurations - or are your configurations in control of you?,
at Conference on Java and Object Orientation, Copenhagen, Denmark, September 2, 1998.

Abstract:
Configuration management is important in order to be able to successfully control software development projects.

The basic concepts and methods are there to solve most problems encountered by normal organisations and its benefits are well-known. So why is it that configuration management is not in wide-spread use? And that when used why is it often practised in an incomplete and inconsistent way?

Too little configuration management is bad for your project - but too much is bad too. How do we establish what is the right amount and how do we get our organisation to adopt proper configuration management practices? This presentation will focus on answering these questions and on how an organisation can continuously evolve its capabilities for configuration management.
