Final Exam

You may register for the exam (on Moodle) whether or not you have passed the exam prerequisites.

A. Exam Prerequisites

To take the exam, you must satisfy the following conditions:

  1. You must individually have registered an exam slot
  2. You must be available at the time of the exam slot
  3. Your group has completed all four labs by the deadline
  4. You must have a webcam or similar video device.

Alternatively, you may be able to take an extended exam or qualify for the re-exam.

A.1 Extended Exam

If your group has completed 75% of the labs (partial credit may apply), you can request an extended exam. Make sure to send an e-mail to Christoph at least 24h BEFORE your registered exam slot.

An extended exam:

A.2 Late Lab Completion

If you can't take the extended exam, you may be able to qualify for the re-exam. For this, you must have

  • Otherwise, this behaves like an Extended Exam, except during the re-exam period.
  • B. Preparing for the Exam

As you have probably seen, we now have quizzes up for all the skill categories, to furteher help you prepare for the EDAP15 exam. We have set them up so that you can take them as often as you like.

The quizzes are not mandatory, but if you can complete all quizzes and also explain all of the homework assignments, you should have no trouble passing the exam.

I recommend making notes of subjects that you found challenging, and extending that list with skills from the skills list that you are uncertain about. You may use your notes in the exam.

    C. Exam Structure

You have 25 minutes for the exam slot, split into two phases. You may bring and use notes, but be aware of the time limit.

If you are registered and eligible for the exam, you will receive an e-mail at least 24h before the exam with a Zoom link for your exam room.

Phase I (15-20 minutes): Pass or Fail

I will give you three topics from our course (randomly selected) to choose from, of which you must pick two. The topics can be any of the following:

I will then give you questions about these topics, and your goal will be to convince me that you have a robust understanding of the concepts behind this topic and can apply the related skills.

You will be able to answer orally but can choose to use the written form (e.g., if you want to write down a code snippet).

Note that time is limited. It is better to give "okay" answers to all questions than to use up your time to give the perfect answer to only one. If I cut you off while you still have time, it will be because I believe that you are not using your time in your own best interest.

If you have convinced me within the 20 minutes that you have a robust grasp of both topic areas, I will notify you that you have passed, which means that you are guaranteed a grade of 3.

If you finish within 15 minutes, you can also choose to continue to the second phase.

    Phase II (10+ minutes): Advanced

The optional second phase has at least ten minutes, but possibly more if you completed the first phase early.

In this phase, I will ask questions about all skill sets and their connections. Depending on your answers, you can increase your grade to a 4 or 5, though I may not be able to tell you right away (especially if you get creative).

    D. Re-Exam

I expect to offer re-exams during the usual time frame. "Plussning" will be possible, but only for students who met the full exam prerequisites (i.e., not if you have taken an Extended Exam).
