ABSTRACT
The purpose of this project is to estimate the cost, in terms of CPU time,
of introducing automatic memory management in real-time systems, and to
evaluate how suitable different garbage collection algorithms are in
real-time systems. The project also evaluates the development progress of
a compiler, called Java2C, developed by the Department of Computer Science
at Lund Institute of Technology, which is used during the project. The
master s thesis includes information about the compiler, different
algorithms, the development of test applications and benchmarking of
algorithms. The thesis concludes with an analysis of different memory
management algorithms.
