Proposal for an examination project in the area of 
semantic web technology in automation

Topic: a distributed, authenticated, semantic (RDF/OWL) knowledge base for
storage and manipulation of automatic robotized production knowledge

Short intro:
In the framework of EU-project Rosetta (www.fp7rosetta.org) we develop
a Knowledge Integration Framework - a knowledge base server providing 
participants with production environment data and knowledge. So far,
we are using a simple, centralised, unencrypted server for our
experiments, but this solution does not meet any reasonable demands
from the following list:
- authentication of the users: making sure that only some users have
right to access (some of ) the services;
- distributedness: making sure that the knowledge base can be
physically distributed on many machines and in many physical
locations;
- reliability: making sure that the services are available on-line
without interruption by providing a backup service synchronised with
the primary one.

Some of these problems have a solution in different context, while
some other may need a novel approach. Background knowledge in network
communication and JavaScript is necessary; knowledge of security
problems is a plus.
